JANUARY 2005 Update
Our youth and adult poetry workshop meets Wednesday evenings at our office from 6-8 pm.
Saturday, January 15 YAP and the community will celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday at Cape May Elementary School’s cafeteria from 6-8 p.m. There will be readings and a slide show with images from Toni Morrison’s book, Remember: The Journey to School Integration, preceded by a pot luck supper. A bus will leave the Kare Center in Wildwood at 5:30 to bring Wildwood YAP families to the event. The event and the bus are free, but advance registration is needed for the bus.
YAP will continue in Cape May and Wildwood on January 22 at 6:00 p.m. For information and a detailed schedule, please leave your name and phone number or address.
On Monday, January 17, join us at 4:30 for a free reception as we celebrate the opening of Two Women, Two Worlds, our Community History Program’s exhibit in collaboration with the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts. The reception and exhibit are at the Carriage House Gallery on the Emlen Physick Estate. The exhibit continues through the spring.
Our African American Heritage Walking Tours of Cape May are on hiatus until the spring.
Center for Community Arts
Cape May, New Jersey's Center for Community Arts (CCA) is transforming the Franklin Street School into a community cultural center. CCA creates arts programs for youth and adults, community history programs, exhibits and tours celebrating Cape May's African American heritage, and community outreach events, such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday Party, and Hotel and Guest Night, the Cape May Talent Sampler (8/27/07).
