YAP & ART AT THE LIBRARY RETURN

YAP, the Center for Community Arts Youth Arts Program for grades 5-8, resumes January 7 at 6:00 p.m. in Cape May, Wildwood and Lower Township. This free program provides a light supper and art activities led by professional artists. This semester’s theme is “Threads of Many Lands.” On January 7, participants will make a mural of fabric, inspired by the work of Faith Ringgold. YAP is in Lyle Hall at the Cape May United Methodist Church, at Cape Assist’s Kare Center, 3819 New Jersey Avenue in Wildwood, and at the Millman Center, 209 Bayshore Road in Villas.

Janet Payne brings the Center for Community Arts Art at the Library program to Cape May City Public Library on Thursday, January 5, at 7 p.m. with a reading of “Beautiful Black Bird,” a Zambian tale about color. The program also meets January 19 with another project and book. Children ages 6-10 will enjoy the book and create a related work of art under Payne’s direction. Families are asked to sign up for this free program in advance at the Library, on Ocean & Hughes Streets.

YAP will skip January 14 and meet instead on Sunday, January 15 at 6:00 p.m. for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday Party and pot luck supper at Cape May City Elementary School. The fabric murals created January 7 will be on display, and there will be a tribute to Rosa Parks. A free bus will be provided from Cape Assist in Wildwood, for which an advance reservation is required. Call 884-7525 for information.

YAP will go to the Newark Museum on Saturday, January 21; the trip is free but advance reservations are required by calling 884-7525. YAP will resume on Saturday, January 28 at all three locations at 6:00 p.m. for a new project on the theme, “Threads of Many Lands.”
