Cape Island Community Mural
The Franklin Street School's Cape Island Community Mural will depict Cape Island, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Delaware Bay.
When finished, the tile mural will adorn the entrance hall to the Franklin Street School Community Cultural Center. It was designed by West Cape May artist, Susan Ross.
Tiles recognizing major donors will be installed immediately adjacent to the mural.
The Center for Community Arts is rehabilitating the school and will operate the new Community Cultural Center when it opens in 2009.
During 2006, the entire community pitched in to help make tiles for the mural, under Susan Ross's guidance, with support from a major Artists in Communities grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
Center for Community Arts programs receive general operating support from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State, and many generous businesses and individuals.
